SHAH ALAM, 28 SEPTEMBER 2022 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has commemorated an agreement with the University of Essex today.
The University of Essex is a public research university based in Essex, England, and it is one of the original plate glass university established by the royal charter in 1965. Sprawling over three campuses with its primary location in Wivenhoe Park, its other campuses are in Southend-On-Sea and Loughton. The university is proud in its history of distinguished alumni in several fields across the world. From Nobel Prize laureates, head of states, senior governors and politicians to scientists, artists, academics and world renowned artists.
Essex exposes its students to people from every corner of the planet to create networks that last for life as they are built upon a genuinely global community that lives and works together. UiTM students who choose Essex will be exposed to internationally relevant curriculum, become its part of diverse community, and are taught or supervised by academics whose research has global impacts in the world we live in.
The mutual agreement aims to facilitate seamless UiTM students’ progression at the University of Essex. The launching was held at the UiTM Canseleri Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin building today. UiTM was represented by its Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Internationalization, Professor Dr Shahriman Zainal Abidin, while the University of Essex was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Anthony Foster.
The Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Shahriman Zainal Abidin had pointed out how strong bilateral relations between Malaysia and the UK has made student exchanges and mobility seamless since the two countries mutually recognizes each other’s academic excellence at the tertiary level.
“Due to the increasing interest in becoming a global citizen, UiTM students can pursue their dreams and studies abroad with the progression links between UiTM and the University of Essex. This pathway will serve as a shortcut for UiTM students who graduated from their diploma program excellently”, he added.
Started in 2018, the progression links were inaugurated with students from actuarial science and accountancy diploma programmes in UiTM Perak. Seeking to further expand the progression to other diploma programmes, Essex is working with Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB) to offer similar opportunities to its diploma and undergraduate students in UiTM Cawangan Melaka, UiTM Cawangan Johor Kampus Segamat and UiTM Shah Alam.
Through the Academy of Language Studies (known as Akademi Pengajian Bahasa, APB), the collaboration between UiTM and Essex would also dedicate to bring in more experts in relative fields from Essex. Hence, the collaboration opens the path for the improvement of the already impeccable offerings by APB in the UiTM education system.
