The terminology image-based sexual abuse was coined by Clare McGlynn and Erika Rackley. It groups digital sexual offences under the same category due to the similarities that they share such as permanence of images or videos, especially once uploaded online.
It refers to non-consensual acts of creating or distributing private, sexual images which were obtained either secretly (for instance, in cases of upskirting or by way of hacking), or privately (for example, in revenge porn cases).
